SIX-MINUTE PODCASTS



All the 80 ironstone mines in Cleveland had shale tips, where the unwanted stone from the mine was dumped, most have been flattened and grassed over, but it was decided to leave the Kilton Tip as a reminder of the important and dangerous work done by thousands of Cleveland ironstone miners.

Unfortunately many people today see the industrial heritage of Cleveland as a problem and the Kilton shale tip, like much of our past, is gradually being destroyed and will eventually be replaced by some "nice green heritage." (Freebrough Hill in the background is natural)

These six-minute podcasts are my way of passing on the heritage of Cleveland to future generations.. John Lawson
